About Dusty Yarn Company

Hi there, thanks for stopping by! Dusty Yarn Company is a small, family owned and operated hand-dyed yarn studio. We operate out of our home in San Juan Capistrano, California, a short 1.8 miles from the Pacific Ocean. We take inspiration for our colorways from the incredible place we call home and the surrounding areas, and look to live a colorful life every day.

Audrey is our head dyer, inspiration board maker, resident knitter, and also a psychotherapist when she's not dying yarn. She was introduced to knitting and the world of fiber arts as a little girl, her mother owned and operated a local yarn shop in the late 80's and her grandmother taught her how to knit around age 7. It was normal to have a massive floor loom in the family room and cabinets full of yarn growing up! Audrey is rarely seen without a knitting project, regardless of the situation.

Mr. Dusty is our head of all things logistics, shipping, and finance, as well as tweaking colorways to hit exactly right. He had no clue about how expansive and impressive the world of knitting, crochet and fiber arts was prior to meeting Audrey and soon after receiving his first hand-knit hat. While most commonly found on the water either surfing or paddle boarding, He also has a tremendous eye for color that proves incredibly helpful in the dye studio!

Co-stars in the DYC universe are our two elementary school aged girls who love a hand knit sweater and helping in any way that they can with our dying operation, and our two miniature schnauzers named Bodhi and Coach.

I'm sure you're still wondering ... but why Dusty?

Dusty is our beloved 2001 Volkswagen Eurovan! Our favorite way to spend time together as a family is to pack up blankets, towels, snacks, surfboards, and head to the beach in our little white home away from home. (Dusty was also the vehicle that Mr. Dusty picked Audrey up in on their first date, so you could say it was love at first sight.) When searching for a name for our dying business, we wanted something that amplified what we loved, and Dusty was it.
